The house was up a lovely quiet street in a great location not far from the waterfront and village. It is full of fantastic photography from trips around the world. It was vibrant and very clean. Monica was a fabulous hostess and very welcoming with great conversation.

The location was absolutely perfect for where I wanted to stay. Bed was clean and very comfortable, and Monica was a great host who couldn't do enough to ensure that I was comfortable staying in her home. The Art is intriguing and an interesting talking point.

Welcome was great, explained we had a function to attend and may be late so a key was given, lights were ieft on for us with a friendly note as to the switching off Bed was a little firm for our liking but everyone has different tastes . Breakfast was great , with two other guests , Monica joined us which was lovely

Wasn't what we didn't like , just thought reading lamps would be nice and somewhere to put ones bag other than the floor.

What would you highlight about Art BnB Devonport

Tillie and I stayed for two nights. Tillie’s the little pooch I’m dog-sitting while in NZ. The first night we’d booked Bed 2. As there were no other guests, Monica upgraded us to Bed 1, which was lovely. Bed 2 for the second night was fine; a smaller room, but new bed, very comfy, and I found the green on the walls and the greenery outside soothing. Very quiet neighbourhood. Tillie slept in the walk-in closet in Bed 1 on Monica’s sheepskin, and next to the bed in Bed 2 the second night. The hostess is a dog whisperer. Tillie was a bit shy on arrival but went for a long walk to the nearby beach with our hostess and they came back as best friends. Breakfast was a warm delight; different both days. First one was Syrian style, so eggplant dip, yoghurt, etc. Second was NZ style, scrambled eggs with parsley from her garden. Nice coffee with cardamom. I saw in town that the cheapest breakfast is $10, and most start at $16, so Monica saved me a few pennies. Could hardly believe I went swimming at the end of her street on day 1 as the temp was still in the 20s. Then, walked Tillie to a café on Vauxhall Road, where I saw Lorde. Yes, THE Lorde. Monica and I have both travelled quite a lot and I enjoyed swapping stories and listening to her tell of the stories attached to her wonderful photographs. On our second night we watched a DVD and I felt as comfortable as if I were in my own home. Art BnB Devoport is,well priced, well located, and the hostess is a gem. Tillie and I were so sad to leave. Even as we plotted our plans to see more of the lovely north Island, we were thinking of when we would return to Monica’s lovely home. You’ll never get this kind of experience in a hotel and Tillie & I give this home a 2 Paws up.

Before we noticed, Monica pointed out some marks on the ceiling from a recent roof repair. Her contractor had to put off the painting until the Spring to assure there was no dampness. It did not detract from the overall eclectic charm and inviting comfort.

It was near to the port

the place smells a musty, sheets and pillow case don't smell fresh, shared toilet and bathroom which were not mentioned in the ad and we were not aware about; bed is not comfortable, you can feel the bed springs when you are lying: coffee, tea, and breakfast were horrible, we were served with hard toast as she cooked those in oven as she has no toaster; served with butter which I saw on the table sitting there uncovered when we came the day before; no jam, marmalade or any bread spread; 1 egg per person served undercooked, no table or chair outside where we could sit down and drink; no TV in the room or in the lounge; And also, she only accepts cash for payment. Generally , the place shouldn't be recommended for a bed and breakfast where people expect to have a good experience away from home. It was a big disappointment for us.

Monica was a lovely host with a wealth of worldly knowledge from her extensive travels as an aid worker, of which she is more than happy to impart through interesting in depth conversations. Great local knowledge and maps. Beautiful home in a beautiful area. Thanks for having us!
